Practical advice from New Life Carpet · Pontefract and nearby areas

You do not necessarily need to empty the whole room before carpet cleaning. Clear loose belongings and small, easily moved items, then agree what will happen to larger furniture when you book.
The important question is which areas of carpet you want cleaned. Cleaning the open floor around a bed is a different job from cleaning underneath it. Let New Life Carpet know your priorities so we can discuss access before the appointment.
Not sure what to move? Send us a wide photo of the room and point out any areas you want us to reach. Please do not struggle with heavy furniture just to prepare for our visit.
Start with the things that hide the floor or could get in the way:
Put these somewhere outside the rooms being cleaned. Moving everything from one side of the same room to the other may simply hide a different patch of carpet. Keep doorways and the route through the house clear.
Discuss large items before moving them. A small sofa, a storage bed and a fully loaded wardrobe need very different handling. Furniture may have fragile legs, loose joints, electrical connections or fixing brackets that are not obvious at first glance.
Tell us if you want carpet cleaned beneath a bed or sofa, rather than only the accessible areas. We can discuss what is practical and what needs arranging in advance. Do not assume that dismantling beds, shifting full bookcases or moving heavy cabinets is included in a carpet-cleaning quote.
If an item is staying in place, the carpet underneath it will not receive the same access as the open floor. Agreeing the scope beforehand avoids surprises.
The National Carpet Cleaners Association’s preparation guidance also recommends confirming furniture-moving arrangements when booking.
Our professional cleaning process includes pre-vacuuming where appropriate, so you do not need to shampoo the carpet before we arrive. Clearing the floor is the most useful preparation you can do.
Point out marks, pet accidents and any areas you are concerned about. Tell us which products have already been used. Please avoid trying several new spot cleaners just before the visit; knowing what is on the carpet helps us assess it.
If a mark has returned after an earlier clean, our guide explains why carpet stains can come back and why the cause matters.
If lifting or moving things is difficult for you, tell us beforehand. There is no benefit in risking an injury to get a room ready.
Where suitable furniture is returned to damp carpet, we use protective tabs under its feet as needed. They help separate the furniture from the carpet while it dries.
Damp carpet in contact with some wooden finishes or metal feet can develop colour-transfer or rust marks. Equipment manufacturer Bane-Clene explains how furniture tabs and blocks help prevent these marks.
Leave any tabs or blocks in place until the carpet is fully dry and follow the advice given at the visit. Do not slide furniture off them or put rugs and floor coverings back early. Our carpet drying guide explains the usual 4–12-hour estimate and why conditions can change it.
New Life Carpet provides carpet and upholstery cleaning across Pontefract (WF8), Castleford (WF10), Wakefield and nearby areas.
When you request a cleaning quote, include the rooms, your postcode and a photo showing the furniture layout. Let us know whether you want accessible carpet cleaned or need advice about reaching beneath larger items. We can then discuss a practical plan for your home.
