Pontefract / Prices and quotations · Updated · New Life Carpet
Our minimum charge for domestic cleaning is £80. A useful cleaning quote tells you which areas are covered, what treatment is included and what might cost extra. The number of rooms alone rarely tells the whole story.
The short answer: We quote for the size, material, condition and access to the areas being cleaned. Send your postcode, room list and photos for a price for your actual job. We confirm the agreed work and price before cleaning begins.

What affects carpet cleaning prices in Pontefract?
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Room size and layout | A large open-plan room takes more preparation and cleaning than a small bedroom. Approximate dimensions help. |
| Stairs and landings | Edges, nosings and risers need detailed work. Include the number of staircases and landings in your enquiry. |
| Carpet material | Wool, synthetic fibres and specialist materials can require different products, checks and methods. |
| Soiling and staining | Heavy traffic lanes, oily marks and previously treated spots may need extra attention beyond routine cleaning. |
| Pet odours | Contamination can extend into backing or underlay. Ask whether specialist treatment is needed and what it includes. |
| Furniture and access | Parking, floor level, equipment access and furniture movement affect how the work can be carried out. |
There is no reliable way to turn “one room” into a firm price without knowing what that room involves. A photo does not answer every technical question, but it is a useful starting point.
How to compare two cleaning quotations fairly
Make sure both cleaners are quoting for the same rooms, approximate sizes and condition. Then ask what is included rather than assuming that the lowest headline price covers the same work.
- Preparation: will the carpet be inspected and is dry-soil removal included where needed?
- Cleaning method: which method suits the material, and what pre-treatment or agitation is included?
- Stain work: are ordinary spots included, and which specialist treatments are additional?
- Furniture: what can be moved, who moves it and which areas will remain inaccessible?
- Finishing: are drying guidance and appropriate furniture protection included?
- Total price: does the quote cover all agreed areas and any relevant additional charges?
A higher price alone does not prove a better service. Clear scope, suitable methods, evidence of previous work and realistic expectations give you a better basis for comparing value.
Compare the same work, not just the total
Imagine two quotes for a lounge and staircase. One covers the accessible carpet around furniture and routine cleaning; the other includes agreed furniture movement and a separate pet-odour treatment. Those totals cover different work. Ask each cleaner to list the included areas, treatments and any extra charges in writing, then compare the same scope.
If you have a fixed budget, say which areas matter most. Ask for clearly described options, so you can choose the work you need without assuming every treatment is included.
Send these details for a useful quote
- Your postcode and the property type, including the floor level where relevant.
- The rooms, stairs and landings you want cleaned.
- Approximate dimensions if you know them.
- A wide photo of each area and close-ups of important marks.
- Details of pets, odours and stain removers already applied.
- Any access, parking, furniture or timing constraints.
For example, “a lounge about 4 m by 4 m, one staircase and a landing, with a coffee mark near the sofa” is more useful than “three carpets”. This is an example of the detail to send, not a fixed-price package.
Use the free cleaning quote form or send the information by SMS. If inspection reveals a different issue, we will discuss it before additional work is agreed.
Common questions about cost
Can I get a firm price from photos?
Photos and measurements help us understand the job, but they cannot reliably show every fibre, backing issue or previous treatment. Ask whether the price is a firm quote or an initial estimate, what assumptions it uses and whether an inspection is needed. If the condition differs from the information supplied, agree any change to the work and price before cleaning starts.
The National Carpet Cleaners Association’s customer FAQs explain why cleaning prices vary and why an inspection may be needed for an accurate quotation.
Is it better value to clean several rooms together?
One visit can share travel and setup time across the work, so ask for a combined quote. The saving, if any, depends on the areas and treatment required; it is not an automatic discount.
Can I book just stairs or one room?
Yes, you can enquire about a single room or staircase. Tell us exactly what you need so we can confirm the price and availability. Our stair carpet guide explains why stairs often need detailed attention.
Does the quote guarantee every stain will disappear?
No. Permanent colour changes, worn fibres and some old stains cannot be corrected by cleaning. We explain what can reasonably be assessed and any limitations. For persistent pet odours, read our dog urine smell guide before comparing a routine clean with specialist treatment.
Do I need to empty the room?
Clear small items and breakables, then agree the handling of larger furniture with us. Read what to move before carpet cleaning so the quote and preparation match the areas you want cleaned.
How long before I can use the room?
Many carpets take about 4–12 hours to dry after our hot water extraction process; some take longer. Allow for ventilation, humidity and the carpet construction. The drying guide explains how to plan around the clean.
